At Brompton Community School, we believe math should be more than memorization - it should be a journey of discovery. In our middle school program, math looks different.
Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, move at a pace that matches their understanding, and build deep, lasting confidence in their problem-solving skills.
This year, twenty-one middle school students are engaged in seven different levels of math - a powerful example of what individualized learning can look like when students are given the freedom and support to thrive. Using the ThinkWell math program, each student follows a personalized online course with continuous guidance from their teacher, Ms. Marie.
A Message from Ms. Marie
Middle School Math Update:
We are busy working on many levels at many paces! There are seven different math levels being learned by twenty-one students. We are using the ThinkWell math program, which is an online course for each student.
At the beginning of the year, all students took a placement test to decide into which math course they should enroll. Once assigned, they started working on their own. These are self-paced classes, so each student moves according to their understanding. As the math teacher, I am available to each student when they have difficulty with a concept and I keep them on track to finish the course by the end of the school year. Saying that, many are on track to finish their math before the end of the year. We do have a plan to keep the students actively learning should they finish a course before May.
Almost all of the students are working above their grade level, some are even two years ahead of the normal course for their grade. We have also worked in two days where I am available to help those who are struggling.
I am very excited about this program because students would never be able to move at their own pace in most schools or get the one-on-one attention I am able to give them. We expect great accomplishments from these students!

A Look Inside the Classroom
The ThinkWell program gives students both independence and structure. Each lesson begins with interactive practice - if a student demonstrates full understanding, they move on. If not, they revisit the concept through a video lesson and take notes to reinforce the material.
Quizzes and tests are used as tools for growth rather than judgment. Students can retake quizzes until mastery, and when it’s time for a test, they complete it by hand to show their work. If a test score isn’t where it should be, Ms. Marie reviews the missed items with the student, who then has the opportunity to try again or complete test corrections for partial credit. It’s a system built on understanding over memorization, ensuring that each learner moves forward with genuine confidence.

Algebra 1:Â Variables, Exponents, Functions, Multi-Step Equations, Absolute Value, and Proportions.
Honors Pre-Algebra:Â Expressions, Properties of Numbers, Integers, Equations, Inequalities, Rational Numbers, Functions, and Sequences.
7th Grade Math:Â Patterns, Properties, Algebraic Expressions, Equations, Integers, Factors, Multiples, and Operations with Fractions.
6th Grade Math:Â Whole Numbers, Exponents, Variables, Expressions, Equations, and Decimals.
Why It Matters
At Brompton, our goal isn’t to rush students ahead - it’s to meet them where they are and empower them to grow. The self-paced structure allows advanced learners to soar while giving every student the time and individual support they need to truly understand math. It’s this kind of flexibility and attention that makes our middle school program stand out.
When students experience math as a living, connected subject, not just a checklist of skills, they develop confidence, independence, and a mindset that carries far beyond the classroom.
Ready to See the Difference?
Brompton’s middle school program offers more than academic rigor; it nurtures curiosity, independence, and the joy of learning. Our approach to math is just one example of how we help students grow into capable, confident thinkers.
